Verrières Frédéric

Frédéric Verrières learned music by ear and at Paris conservatory with Marc-André Dalbavie, Gérard Grisey, Michael Levinas, François Théberge, Gabriel Yared. He studied computer music at Ircam and was a fellow of the Académie de France in Rome Villa Medici. He composed scores for live concerts, operas, movies soundtracks.

He worked closely on universal masterpieces which he used to make connections to his own music.
He met Debussy, Bach, Chopin, Verdi, Coltrane as well as Flamenco, Folk music from the middle east, middle africa or pop songs and electronic pieces as starting points and freely re-invented those different category in his own style.
His choice to link these masterpieces to his own music results in a new form between shadows and light, where both model and invention co-exist within a new piece.

His most recent pieces include:
- Jazz animé ordered by Jérome Deschamps for the Opéra Comique of Paris,
- The Second Woman, an opera creation for Les Bouffes du Nord,
- A travers written for the Musica Festival of Strasbourg,
- Une cour Impériale en 1855 created by the Ictus Ensemble at the Kai Theatre in Brussels
- Domenico Scarlatti: A visitation for the Biennale di Venezia.

Frederic Verrieres is currently writing his second opera, Mimi
freely inspired by the Bohème of Puccini to be performed soon at Les Bouffes du Nord.
