Danae Stefanou is a musicologist and performer, currently Assistant Professor of Historical Musicology at the Department of Music Studies, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She studied Music at the Universities of Nottingham (MA) and London (PhD) and was a Research Fellow and Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London until 2007. Her research focuses on historical and critical approaches to experimentation & improvisation and examines a broad range of interconnections between music and space, often through a practice-based perspective. Danae plays in the electroacoustic duo Acte Vide with Yannis Kotsonis, and together they co-run an experimental music concert series and weekly free improvisation workshop at Knot Gallery in Athens, since 2009. She also takes part in the Thessaloniki-based improvisation collective 6daEXIt, and performs frequently in one-off and more regular sets with improvisers from other countries.
